Tooth Whitening Tips for a Dazzling Smile

Nowadays, teeth are being whitened by everyone. And why not? With all the different options available, it's fast and affordable to get the gorgeous white smile you've always wanted. If you're considering having your teeth whitened, the first thing to do is choose your preferred method. Check out the following tooth whitening tips to make the process easier and more effective before you get started.

Several techniques are available to whiten your teeth. The fastest way is with a treatment at your dentist's office. These treatments can cost anywhere from several hundred dollars to more than one thousand dollars, and may not be covered under your dental insurance. Most of the time, these whitening treatments are done by applying a gel to the teeth then using a high powered light to activate the gel. It takes about an hour, and when it's all over you can expect your teeth to be dramatically whiter than they were before the treatment. Most of the time, the only real side effect is some tooth sensitivity.

If you want to choose an inexpensive alternative to whiten your teeth, you should check the toothpaste aisle of your local variety or grocery store. There are lots of different whitening products out there in many different forms. You'll find strips, pens, gels, pastes, rinses and more. While these products don't work near as fast as a treatment at the dentist's office, they are substantially less expensive. For example, you can expect to pay less than $50 for a box of Crest Whitestrips which can provide whiter teeth in about a week depending on which variety you choose. Some whitening products even cost as little as $10 or even less!

No matter which product you end up going with, there are some measures you can take to keep your pearly whites looking their best. Use a whitening toothpaste and mouth rinse when brushing your teeth, preferably after each meal. Flossing is also an important way to keep your mouth healthy and prevent unsightly plaque buildup. Avoid tooth staining beverages like cola, coffee and red wine. If you must drink them, use a straw to keep the liquid from coming in contact with your teeth. Preventative measures like these can help your newly whitened teeth look their best as long as possible!
